Dr. Tsegaye Ararssa: RESISTING AN INIQUITOUS TAX HIKE IS A RIGHT EVEN IN A DEMOCRACY

RESISTING AN INIQUITOUS TAX HIKE IS A RIGHT EVEN IN A DEMOCRACY (Shared again on demand)

==========================

To resist an arbitrary and iniquitous tax hike is a right, even in a democracy. It becomes a duty in a system where the regime is neither representative nor democratic in its decsion-making. Oromia is currently resisting the Tax Hike imposed on citizens who have been under a state of emergency for 8 months. That the people resist it is as it should be.
The resistance is completely peaceful even in the face of violence by the regime soldiers (who killed two protestors in Ambo yesterday). The regime’s effort to use this resistance as an excuse to extend the state of emergency is only a commentary on how it seeks to continue to rule through repressive measures.
The fact that all the killings, massacres, and mass arrests since 2014 and rule by a military command post since 2016 hasn’t contained the resistance is a testament to how deep the grievance is. It is a long-coming reminder for the regime to change its course. Apparently,  it is probably too late for them to change course as they are both unwilling and incapable to do so.
The resistance continues. The #OromoRevolution continues to beat the regime at every corner just as it did so far …on the Master Plan, the border wars, the policy on Afaan Oromo alphabet/script, “the Special Interest” Law, Finfinnee, and much much more. The Tax Hike shall also be resisted with characteristic calm, resilience, and resolve.
#ResisTaxHike, #OromoRevolution
