Rally held over killings & controversies in Ethiopia

www.inews880.comNearly 200 Oromo-Canadians marched down 6th Avenue Friday to call on the Trudeau government to stop sending money to that country.

Rally-goers say the money is being used to support the Ethiopian government, who is turning around and killing or incarcerating protesters there over a land dispute.

Jilcha Mohammed is the chairperson of the Oromo Community of Alberta, and says if the Canadian government follows through, it’ll send a strong message.

“Canada is a major contributor of foreign aid to Ethiopia and it has a lot of influence over the Ethiopian government,” Mohammed said Friday.  “So we just want Canada to put pressure on them and even cut that aid, if necessary.”

The protest ended in front of MP and Veterans Affairs Minister Kent Hehr’s office.

It was the second rally in as many weeks.
